Sheep and Goats

When did we see you thirty? Oh Lord, when were you in need?
Believe us, we would have noticed and brought you some relief
Lord, when were you a stranger? We would've gladly let you in
and when were you on death row for a crime you did not commit?

and we say, "God helps those who help themselves"

Lord, you couldn't be that beggar chasing his next score

you weren't that scared young mother who we called "impure"
When did you cross a border to try to save your family?
When exactly did you spend your youth in a sweat shop factory?

but we say, "God helps those who help themselves"

If we'd seen you on the news, you know we would've been right there
if you showed up where we want you to, you'd see how much we care
all this time we've never seen you, never even came to our church
we sell plenty of helpful products if you'd just put in the work

but we say, "God helps those who help themselves"
we're fine, upstanding goats if we do say so ourselves

Lord, perhaps no one told you,
but we're big on charity
we prefer tossing out life lines
to seeing who's throwing folks in
upstream
Lord, perhaps you had't heard,

but we sent our thoughts and prayers
it's not our fault if they go unanswered,
we've done more than our fair share
